Got a budding junior masterchef in your household?

Il Locale Italian Restaurant is running a junior pizza making class over the Easter School Holidays. It will be fun, hands-on pizza making for the kids with their Italian Pizzaiolo Dario. Each child will learn how to knead the dough, shape the pizza then add their favourite toppings. Then their pizza creations will be cooked in our woodfired oven. To finish they will get to eat their very own pizza for lunch. The classes are small for ages 8-12, so places are limited. You can book online here or give Il Locale a call on 07 3368 2122.

July Pizza Workshop

Il Locale is running another of their successful pizza workshops on Saturday 12 July. Their Italian pizzaiolo Leandro will share the secrets to the perfect pizza and cooking in a woodfired oven. This is a great way to start a cruisy weekend with a ‘hands on’ workshop followed by a pizza lunch. Naturally, we will be sharing a glass of Italian wine from our friends at Red + White.

New menu at Spring Hill!

We've changed over the menus at Spring Hill, (we'll look at the breakfast one next week), but for now, it's all about lunch... read on to see what's on the menu.

We love lunch. Whether it's a sandwich eaten on the run, or (and much more preferable!) sitting down to a more leisurely meal, it's such a welcome injection in the middle of the day.  With the weather warming and delicious new season produce available, we've been working away in the kitchen to bring you a new  menu for lunch. 

The favourites are still there (there would be a revolt if the ploughman's board or meatballs disappeared!) but we've also added some lighter options in, like a smoked chicken salad with fennel, tomato and orange - perfect for when it's just too hot. The classic caprese salad features too. On the pasta front, we're tossing gnocchi lightly (it is Spring afterall!) in salsa verde.

We know you love the rib fillet burger, so that's stayed, but we've expanded the offers on the burger front, introducing a pulled pork, vegetarian and lamb option. All come with chips! 

The pizzas are now numerous in number, and the bases are pre made at Il Locale, so to give them that wood fired, crispy effect.

Something new! Introducing Il Locale

You might have heard... we've started something new and we're beyond excited! Il Locale will open this week in Brisbane's Rosalie - just down the road from our Milton cafe/deli. It's the culmination of concepts, cool design wares, and menu ideas we've collected the past few years...as well as a great deal of hard work!  


The menu is shaping up to be beyond tantalising. There'll be slow roasted meats, suckling pig and 12 hour slow roasted lamb shoulder.

You can also expect handmade pastas including pizzocherie (below is a shot from our family tasting night) and a selection of plates to share with friends and family like chargrilled quail with broad beans and lemon. 

And that's forgetting the pizzas! They'll be wood fired and thin based, care of our young pizzaiolo, Leandro D'Angelo, who is originally from Florence. The wood fired oven is truly something to behold! 

For the drinks, mostly Italian wines of various price points can be purchased by the glass, 375ml carafe or bottle. We've installed a carbonated water purifier, and for a fixed price per head, you can enjoy unlimited frizzante. Economical and environmental!
